Hunting & Fishing Preserves

Hunting and fishing preserves are large plots of land, often owned by federal or state governments, that have been designated as natural areas. Unlike many national parks that do not allow hunting and fishing, though, these preserves give hunters access to quail, deer, elk, duck, pheasant, and other types of animals during specific times of the year. There are many fishing and hunting preserves throughout the United States, but they often focus on preserving certain types of indigenous ecosystems and animals. This means that one preserve might have plenty of trout, but another might have other types of freshwater fish. Those located by the sea or ocean might also have a variety of saltwater fish. Those with lakes and rivers, however, will typically have pike, carp, trout, salmon, and bass. Similarly, those hunting game should determine whether the preserve is home to boar (a kind of wild pig), elk, deer, bear, and moose. Some preserves might have restrictions on the type of hunting and fishing allowed there. Some, for instance, state that game can only be caught with bow and arrows. This attracts archery experts, but bars those who prefer using guns. This often creates a safer environment for archery hunters and allows the animal population to stay high. When getting information about the preserves in your area, find out whether they have ranches or lodges where you can stay. Catching pheasant, whitetail ducks, and quail in the forest is often more fun when you know that you can return to a comfortable lodge to show off your trophy.
