TRAP RANGE

ASC YOUTH TRAP RANGE TRAINING COURSE
has been cancelled.
2012 Trap/Skeet/5-Stand Events
ASC 2011
TRAP EVENT RESULTS
2011
was a rather full year for “ASC” trappers with the most significant
development being the addition of Skeet and 5-Stand to our regular Trap schedule
thanks to the incredible work of Al Croteau and Brad Reichter that consumed
almost all of their time from May through October. Although neither of
them seek recognition they clearly deserve
a big “thank you” from all ASC members.
During
each year we hold a variety of events in order to add a bit of spice to our
weekly trap enjoyment. The last two
year long events ended on 12/18
One
event recognized those persons that achieved the most perfect “25" scores
and the other recognized those persons that won the most “Adios” events.
The
2011 results were;
PERFECT
SCORES; 1st Whit Haselton, 2nd Dick Reichter and 3rd
a tie between Ken Griffin and Steve Elbert
MOST ADIOS WINS; 1ST Dick Reichter. 2nd Ken Griffin and 3rd Ron Nadeau

We
look forward to even better results and a great deal of shooting enjoyment in
2012 when at least one important addition to our trap training program will be
initiated in January. That will be
a Trap, Skeet and 5-Stand introductory course for member’s sons and daughters
under the age of 15.

WEDNESDAY
NIGHT TEXAS HOLD’EM
TOURNAMENT
RESULTS
A fun yet competitive
Texas Hold’em Tournament ended on 12-14-2011 and those involved look forward
to more of the same in 2012. As always we encourage all members to join the
Wednesday night cards and dinner fun following the closing of the Trap Range. In
addition to Texas Hold’em there is a separate table for regular poker. In all
instances we have house rules that guarantee that no one can win or lose much,
generally only a dollar or two during an entire evening. The purpose being that
of having fun, not on winning money.
With respect to Texas
Hold’em there were seven regulars each of whom contributed $1.00 per week to a
pool from which 1st, 2nd and 3rd place trophies will be awarded with
a Raffles that will distribute to the other participants any funds remaining net
of the cost of the trophies.
We also award points
in the order of finish for each game played with approximately three games being
played each Wednesday. Although there was a total of 234 points awarded the
difference between 1st and 2nd place was only one half of
one point. The winner was (big) Dan Croteau, (our hero) Artie Najem was second
and Al (“all in”) Niebryzdowski was third.

Skeet Shooting Now Offered
We are pleased to inform you that Skeet is now being offered as a regular weekly event and we encourage all members, regardless of whether you have ever shot skeet or not, to consider enjoying this newest addition to our club's sport shooting activities.
Skeet fees are the same as the current Trap relay fee.
As a result of that which we learned during an approximate 10 week field trial period that commenced in mid May significant changes have recently been made with respect to skeet launching speeds. As such, we encourage those that participated in those test shoots who may have been discouraged at the initial clay "in flight" speed to try again. We believe you will be pleasantly surprised at the "shooter friendly" improvements.
We have also learned that visibility may be better when shooting skeet at night under artificial lights. Therefore, August 20, 2011 will be the last date when skeet will be held on Saturday mornings and commencing August 25, 2011 Skeet will be held from 6:00PM until 9:00 PM on Thursday
nights, including board meeting nights, but there will be no skeet on member
meeting nights.
Although we are happy we are able to provide our fellow members additional Skeet and eventually 5-Stand sports shooting activities it is essential that we again solicit the assistance of any members that are willing to help run our various trap/skeet/5-Stand events. If you have a reasonable trap shooting background we will provide all of the additional instruction you might require.
Subject to cancellations, ASC will now be offering annually approximately 100 days of organized trap shooting, 50 days of organized skeet (and soon 5-Stand) shooting, at least five tournaments and 3 or 4 training classes each requiring as many as 7 instructors and assistants. As such, any additional assistance will be greatly appreciated as, to paraphrase Winston Churchill, "it is a bit unfair that so few are asked to do so much for so many."
It is within that context that in addition to the invaluable contribution of Al Croteau who continues to run trap operations each Wednesday along with all of his other ASC activities and several other trap shooters that assist by running trap on Sunday mornings and perform as training class instructors, I am pleased that John Eisenhood and Mike Pierce have volunteered to be responsible for running the weekly Skeet and 5-Stand operations.
Should you have any questions and especially if you are willing to volunteer your services, please contact by email.

The first 2011 Special Event, THE HOLIDAY CUP, was held on April 10 with 16 members participating at
the Standard 16yds, Wobbles at 18 Yds and Handicap at 24 Yds. Whit Haselton had another outstanding event and was the winner. Ken Hartman managed to return from his winter hideout in Florida in time to take second prize and although Ken Griffin was not up to his usual standard he nonetheless took third place, A special acknowledgment should be made with respect to John Eisenhood. John is an outstanding new member who has been been helping everyone with respect to a broad range of club activities ranging from kitchen duties to participating in Wednesday night festivities to that of soon taking an active role in trap management responsibilities. John only recently tried trap but nonetheless, he participated in the Holiday Cup and although he took last place his infectious demeanor and love for participating in a club activity serves as a standard to be emulated by all members, especially new members upon whose participation the club’s future is dependant.
In order to encourage members to “give trap a try” we are holding two beginner’s training classes on May 8 (fully booked) and June 12 (available) and an advanced class on September 25 (fully booked).
