INDOOR RANGE

Last Updated on April 28, 2010

The indoor range has 8 ports for your shooting pleasure.  The door from outside to the indoor range now has a card reader, and gives you 24-hour access to the range.

The range has been sound-proofed, and new lighting has been added.  A target auto-return system has been added to three of the ports.

The range is normally closed on Monday for the pistol league from October until March.  The rest of the year they also practice on Monday night at 7:30 p.m., and request that if you come down on a Monday night, you limit your shooting to .22 caliber only.

Merrimack Valley Pistol League

Congratulations on a Great Season!

Last week, the Merrimack Valley Pistol League (MVPL) had their annual banquet dinner, which I hear was a success. A few of our teammates attended (Doug, Skip, and Rob). Unfortunately, I was unable to participate (due to school vacation week). At the dinner, we were awarded the third place plaque for the B-Division. Congratulations everyone! This plaque will hang in the clubhouse as a reminder of the Team's accomplishment. (Please find A, B, and C-Division final stats attached.) Also, I have individual trophies for all team members. I will pass them out whenever I see you at the Club.

We started this season with a short roster that quickly filled with new shooters. Joe and I are proud of how the group gelled, and by how new and experienced shooters performed. We won many hard-fought matches (in spite of some point restrictions imposed in accordance with MVPL rules).

Assuming that everyone will remain on the 2010 - 2011 roster, we will only have one opening. Last night at the year-end MVPL meeting, George Wright (captain of the Andover Grizzlys) mentioned that they also have a roster opening. Therefore, please keep your eyes/ears open for new shooters.

George and I also discussed other options, including forming a third Andover team. The new team could be comprised of new shooters (if we find enough) and a nucleus of experienced shooters from the existing teams. We also discussed the concept of forming an A-Division Team with shooters from the Kodiaks and Grizzlys (everyone can shoot on two teams provided that the matches are on different nights). The A-Division shoots on Wednesdays. If you're interested in an A-Division Team, please let me know.

I hope everyone enjoyed the 2009 - 2010 season. Please try to find the time to attend formal (Monday nights) or informal practices (I know many of you do so on the weekends).

Finally, I hope everyone has a great spring/summer/fall. I look forward to seeing you on the firing line.

Best wishes,

Mike

Interested in pistol marksmanship?  Have you heard about or tried bullseye pistol shooting (http://www.bullseyepistol.com/)?  It’s a fun competitive individual and team sport.  Matches can include centerfire and/or rimfire pistols, and typically involves three different courses of shooting fired off-hand from 50 feet:  slow fire (10 shots in 10 minutes), timed fire (10 shots in 40 seconds), and rapid fire (10 shots in 20 seconds).

The Andover Sportsmen’s Club (ASC) has two bullseye pistol teams (Grizzlys and Kodiaks) in the Merrimack Valley Pistol League (MVPL), which includes about 20 local teams from clubs in Tewksbury, Billerica, Lowell, and Dracut.  In the MVPL, a rimfire only league, each team has up to 12 shooters on their rosters.  In a match, the top 5 individual scores for each team count toward the team total.  Presently, the ASC teams practice and compete on Monday evenings.  The season runs from October until March.  We are always looking for new shooters (beginners to experts).  If you would like more information, please feel free to contact one of the captains:  Mike Patane (mapatane@yahoo.com), or George Wright (dieselgeo@yahoo.com).
